DON LUGO DANCE DEPARTMENT

The Don Lugo Dance Department offers students an exciting opportunity to train, perform, create, and grow through the art of dance. Whether you have been dancing for years and are ready to take your skills to the next level, or you have never danced before and simply want to try something new, there is a place for you in our program!
One of the best things about Don Lugo Dance is the opportunity to make dance a four-year high school experience. Students can continue developing their technique, confidence, creativity, and performance skills from freshman through senior year. As students progress through the program, they have opportunities to challenge themselves, explore different styles of dance, and become stronger performers and leaders.
And it doesn't stop in the classroom! Every Don Lugo Dance course, regardless of level, gives students the opportunity to participate in our full Dance Production. Students work together throughout the year to prepare for a live performance where friends, family, and the school community can come together to celebrate their hard work and talent.

COURSES OFFERED
Dance Levels 1–3
Students will explore a variety of dance styles while building technique, strength, flexibility, coordination, and performance skills. Classes include daily stretching, conditioning, choreography, and movement activities.
Students will learn dance terminology, anatomy, and proper body alignment, as well as the history and cultural background of different dance styles following state standards. As students progress through Levels 1–3, they will continue to improve their technique, learn more challenging choreography, build confidence, and develop their creativity.
All levels provide students with opportunities to perform at the yearly Spring Concert, work as a team, and be part of the Don Lugo Dance Production.
DANCE 4 - HIP HOP TEAM
Dance 4 is an audition-only course and focuses primarily on Hip Hop. Students who audition to be part of this team will get the opportunity to perform at rallies and other community events. Auditions are held every April.

DANCE 5 - Competitive Dance Team
Dance 5 is an audition-only course and is reserved for students who make it on the Dance Team. Don Lugo's Dance Team competes locally in Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Pom. Our award-winning team practices all year long and performs at rallies and various community events. Auditions are held every April.
